The School of Contemplative Life was established as a charity in 2021 by Chris Whittington.
This was following much enthusiasm and encouragement from spiritual leaders including Rev. Dr. Rowan Williams (former Archbishop of Canterbury) and Fr. Martin Laird OSA who is widely considered to be one of the leading teachers of Christian contemplative practice alive today.
At present, we are focused on delivering a hybrid programme of teaching and practice to help share the gift of meditation as widely as possible, and in a way that is accessible to all.
Our founder
Chris was introduced to contemplative practice at the age of 19.  He then undertook several years of formation during which time he lived at the Benedictine monastery of Prinknash Abbey.
Chris regularly delivers talks, workshops and retreats across the UK. Prior to establishing the School of Contemplative Life, Chris was part of the senior team at the World Community for Christian Meditation.
Previously, as Head of Education Law at a social purpose law firm, Chris introduced meditation to thousands of people working in the education and not-for-profit sectors, helping them to lead more collaboratively and compassionately, build community within their organisations and enhance wellbeing.
